Unit Overview:
The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a 48-bed cardiac telemetry unit that primarily admits patients from the Emergency Department, cardiac catheterization lab, and other inpatient units.

Staffing & Workflow:

  Nurse-to-patient ratio: 4:1, may increase to 5:1 based on unit needs

  \t

• \t

  Team nursing model utilizing PCAs (CNAs) and LPNs

  \t
\t
• \t

  Fast-paced environment with high patient turnover

  \t

Clinical Experience Requirements:

  Must be comfortable managing patients on continuous drips, including amiodarone, diltiazem (Cardizem), dopamine, dobutamine, nitroglycerin, furosemide (Lasix), and insulin

  \t

• \t

  Post–cardiac catheterization procedure experience required

  \t

  Timely patient discharges

  Hourly rounding

  Bedside shift report completed for all patients
